Dental Work - SS Posted by MaryL on 6/7/2018, 11:58 am I had some dental work done yesterday. Today I started back on SS. My mouth is very sore on the left side and it is hard to enjoy food, or anything right now. With the sabotage situation at my house I don't know if I will last the day but I will give it a good try. Also it's cake day at work today (YUK). Everyone have a great day.

I think if we could actually see the toll eating something like cake was taking on our bodies we would avoid it like the plague. The only part of us that responds positively to cake is our taste buds! All the rest of our body is crying for help. Remember that everything you do today is a result of a choice, not a saboteur, or work cake, or any other outside distraction. There is still a choice to be made, and you are free to make the right one! Hope your mouth heals quickly. Dental pain is the worst.

Food addiction is a disease. It is not by choice that I turn to food for comfort, or to bury my emotions. In the last few months I felt I had no impulse control. It's like a moth being pulled to a flame and the destruction though not instanteous occurs over time with the deteriation of health. Lectures do not help. Well meaning as some remarks are meant to be it feels very much like a tear down. What changed in me today was something I pulled from within that I hadn't experienced in a long while. I am not going to let that stupid cake they seem to push at everyone at work or somebody's nasty little remarks get in the way of my determination.

The truth is nobody is going to help me unless I find a way to help myself and as you said make the right choices! Right now I feel like I am trying to pull myself out of quicksand. I get lectures from people who think they know my situation and I get little nasty remarks from the individual that I live with. These people aren't on this board. They really bug the He## out of me especially since they have never had to struggle with a really big weight problem!!!!! I guess I am just a very angry fat woman! (Sounds like a great title for a book" I think I needed to vent and thanks for that. I need to develop a thicker skin and as Yvonne put it "self worth". With a boost in self esteem I would be better able to confront my demons. If you want to remove my comment please feel free to do so.

We are like-minded folks who have this teeny-weeny problem which has dominated our lives for many years (decades for me). Those around us can't or won't understand and they never will. I am also with you about social sabotage from spouses and "friends" and co-workers. It's overwhelming. I just wish I could crawl into a hole and do this all by myself. But, I can't and THAT'S where the problem lies. To overcome these challenges every frickin' day is a herculean task and we are only human. As you know, I am a woman of color. I am reminded all the time not to be an "ANGRY BLACK WOMAN (ABW)" despite being inundated with disrespect and exclusivity on a daily basis. I use to be nice; but people turned me into the irascible person I am today by their constant indifference to my needs and dignity. But, still I rise! Hang in there MaryL.

You're more creative than you probably even realize! Maybe all of us should submit a chapter, on our own angry feelings. At the very least, we'd get it out, and I betcha it would be a best seller if we each just wrote our heart, not trying to write something perfect, just writing truth. Wow. This is a fascinating idea, Mary. What do the rest of you think? Are you willing to write a chapter for "Angry Fat Woman"?

I am mulling the book thing over. The idea of multiple sections written with different personal perspectives could be something great. And powerful.

A lot of people will NEVER understand the daily barrage of snide and snarky comments that we have to endure just because we are overweight. I KNOW a lot of people could relate to a book like that.

That's why it is SO hard to refrain from the surrounding temptations of food. However, if you can promise yourself to be on SS for a week to 10 days, you won't have any appetite to worry about and that helps a lot. Good luck!!

Your body will then be trained and disciplined not to interfere with what you need to do. It's tough but I know you can do it. If you slip, just know that God will give us all the strength and time if we just keep trying.
