Pam, are you there?!! Posted by Yvonne on 2/15/2020, 8:24 am Good morning, fellow endomorphs: Once again, it's Saturday, tax season, frustration and frigid cold here in New Jersey. I have plans to see the CPA, sip my Cambridge and then go to the gym. I wanted to check in with those who are still with the weight-loss plan (it's the destination now and not the journey). I hope everyone had a happy Valentine's Day. I miss Pam on the Board. Take care.

I wanted your opinion from a medical perspective. Dr. Jason Fung says fat is caused from too much irnsulin in our system. Artificial sweetners one of the worst things we can do to produce bodies that store fat. You tube some of his podcasts. I am curious what you think.I am doing 6 packets of Splenda a day in my shakes.

Dr. Fung is saying nothing new that Dr. Allan Howard, from the United Kingdom, has proven over 40 years ago. Dr. Howard’s research confirmed the need for macronutrients and micronutrients which was the impetus for him developing the Cambridge Diet in the late 70s and early 80s. Obesity causes insulin resistance. Therefore, ketosis is a condition that will attempt to reverse this fat storage tendency. I did my research, Dr. Fung is 40 years too late. He is an epigone. Fasting or intermittent fasting may cause metabolic changes in your body that may not be healthy, therefore, the Cambridge Diet utilizing carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in the appropriate ratio will utilize your excess fat for energy. This is the basis of the Cambridge diet. and users can use it for an extended period of time. As with any diet, it works if you follow it. However, what are the consequences of poor nutrition intake? Using Splenda (Dextrose, maltodextrin, sucralose) is a drop in the ocean when it comes to utilizing a sweetener for your particular taste in trying to approach weight loss. It’s hard enough to remain on a restricted caloric diet without having something sweet. I put Splenda in my tea each night and in my Cambridge shake each morning!! I am a perinatal specialist, diabetologist and surgeon for almost 50 years and Cambridge (which is a modified fast) is the way to go in order to burn fat, depress your appetite and attain ketosis. This intermittent fasting may sound great, but it does not allow enough time to develop a prolonged ketosis and therefore, in my humble opinion, it is unsustainable. I hope I have addressed your concerns.

Someone once told me, "Plan your work and work your plan". By being true to sole-source (Diet Coke included), you will lose weight. The scale is imprecise and messes with your mind (at least, it does with me). I know in my case, it's easier to jump on the scale than follow the plan I have outlined, go to the gym and pass up food that I like hoping the scale will tell me that it is still okay NOT to do what I need to do. It's TOUGH!!! Don't get me wrong. If it were easier, everyone would be slim without bariatric surgery. But, it's not. Losing weight is the most difficult venture I have had to do in my life and I'm a physician. So, I can only imagine the difficulties for other folks who have so many distractions in their lives. One needs to view this as a full-time job——because it is. In the midst of all of these food commercials and food-focus everywhere you go promoted by the billion-dollar fast food industry, many Americans have just given up because they have lost hope in ever losing the weight. But, I still believe that I can do it. I put the weight on myself and I and I alone should be able to take it off. No scalpels, no hypnosis, just me. Hang in there, Ann. Believe in yourself. Thank you for being the voice of reason with your medical expertise.My clothes are more loose but I am resisting getting on the scale. It will be the kiss of death if it does not say what I want it to.Keep up the SSing!

YOU'RE DOING GREAT Posted by Yvonne on 2/18/2020, 10:40 pm, in reply to "Re: Ketosis" Thank you for asking about my husband. He is doing well. Slow progress, but in the right direction. He is still at the rehabilitation hospital with 'round the clock nursing care and physical therapy three times a week. I am exhausted, but God gives me strength. Someone once told me that it is the "untold" story that is the best story. I didn't understand at first what he was talking about. The "untold" story means the things that you didn't experience, like stroke, poor health, diabetes, lung cancer etc. because you found a way around them by staying healthy and you kept on going. We, can all have an "untold" story by getting as healthy and beautiful as we can get. Yeah, stay off of that darn scale. It's the devil (just waiting). Do what you know you need to do and the rest will take care of itself. Have a lovely evening.
