If you look at my note under the Parcopresis Workshop topic, you'll notice I'm eager to start something in our Quad-state area. You mentioned when your body shuts down, but it would be enlightening to know when it functions normally. Obviously, there are times when you do defecate. There are many things to consider regarding the "natural" need to defecate. We could discuss diet (foods that bring on the urge more readily to defecate, medications that may lower the level of anxiety, the use of alcohol which seems to help some individuals lower their inhibitions, and the fostering of feeling safe in a "compromised" position by learning to "trust" another person. Defecating in a "public" bathroom would be the ultimate goal, but for many of us the process may involve incremental steps. A few may even want to be challenged to defecate in the "open," so they can enjoy outdoor activities and You're right in stating that self-help groups can do alot without professional oversight.
