@hbfisher - yes you could drive down the beach at low tide and then stay over the high tide.
There are places where you could back your 4wd up to the base of the dunes and wait the night out.
You'd want to be very sure of the weather forecast.

I doubt anyone would bug you for doing that, especially if you were way down the beach.
