I'm currently in Christchurch, apparently the Waimakariri river is a little polluted so locals aren't fishing there. Does anyone know where to fish down here? What rigs & bait?

I want to go out for a flick, but my son & them travel to Kaikoura. I'd prefer to fish locally if i can.
