We are using a sacrificial 8lb mono line for releasing puposes at the moment which seems to work ok, provided you judge the drift direction correctly on release. Otherwise the torpedo becomes a fantastic livebait entanglement device when retrieving it.
Looks like we might also shift to a braid mainline when we go past 250 m.
The first trial we had the other day didn't entice anything, however we learnt a few valuable lessons. Not the least being: make sure the other rods you have already put out are well and truely attached to terra firma. We had 2 other rods out with livebaits on sliders, and my beach spike clearly should have been deeper(and my drag backed off more)! So while we were dicking around with the torpedo, something monstered my livebait and took off with my shiney pflueger and aqua tip, never to be seen again! grrr
