Got out for my first fish of the school holidays (i'm a teacher) today and it was pretty much non-stop. Got to the Wairarapa about 10am and spent the next 3 hours reeling in fish.

I forgot to pick up some mussels so used mullet and squid. Picked up 3 good sized Red cod on the mullet, only used the squid for about 10 minutes because it was guaranteed spiny dogfish. Good day though.

Every other time out there i've used mussels almost exclusively as this seems to catch red cod but not spinies. I use mussels cause I'm hoping to fluke something better during winter and figure I'll eventually get onto some blue moki come spring/summer.

I'd be interested to hear how other people are going with particular baits.
