Yeah Gurnard are becoming an endangered species. However there are plenty of nice fat schoalies at whakaki. Fish the top 3 hours of incoming up to high. Caught a bin full up to 4.5kg in size. There feeding on all the crap thats bin smashed up recently. Interestingly enough as they do at this time of year there scoffing down whole juvenile puffer fish. A lot of the pelagic tunas gorge themselves on these at this time of year. Water was a greeny color due to the increased runoff of freshwater but was clearing quickly as the swell backed off. Morning high produced best , with mid afternoon a close second and evening light change, could have played tidily winks
