Re: no swivel on lure?
Rondo, I'd use that rig you described: a swivel above a short trace. Swivel not too big, think small ones swivel better (think there's a tendency to use too big swivels). Think it might be good if the lure is on some sort of loop, such as uni knot not completely snugged down hard on the lure, so the lure can move about as much as it can when you retrieve it. Think I have read it is not recommended that a swivel is attached to the lure. Not sure what the reason is but I think it might be that it makes the lure look bigger - which would matter if the fish were being very fussy about the size of the small fish they were chasing. But I'm not sure how much it matters in reality though; a lot of lures come rigged with a swivel on the split ring.
