In Sept 2014 i spooled up three diffrent nylons on three surf rods to trial as some nylons were not standing up to harsh conditions on the West coast of the South Island. The fish species we target are rig.
(No1) Sufix Siege 12kg .0.40 A beautiful line to cast but this nylon produced to many snap offs at the knot. a leader was used.Even with changes of knot did not improve.
(2) Sufix Duraflex 15.5kg 0.40 using a leader performed well with only the odd break due to being snagged but a nice nylon to use with leader.
(No3) Black Magic Premier supple 15kg .45 was used over the 12 months without a leader. This nylon has stood up to some very hard fishing on rig with no snap offs except for an odd snag. For twelve months of fishing using black magic that rod would have taken 20 to thirty large rig and the line is still on the spool but will be changed now. Phil at Tackle tactics supplied me with the three. The nylon that will be on all three rods will be the black magic. I would have no hesitation to reccomend the black magic as an all round general surf line.I know some of your readers have their own likes and dislikes but i believe it comes down to a product that is going to stand up to those rigours of producing the fish, as losing fish is not what we want.(We keep what we require and return others to the sea.)
