I have never been afraid of controversy and I can't see that changing anytime soon.

This site has a very useful in-site message board. When you send a message the recipient will get notification at the top of the opening page there is a message waiting perusal. Why is it necessary to start a new thread just to tell someone they have a message?

Threads are for discussion, help, information etc, not to tell someone they have a message they are quite capable of seeing for themselves.
