It was a cold morning and most of us rattled as we walked. A cold wind, sunshine, hail, rain, but a flat sea and a westerly that fired your bait well out into the surf. Awatoto was the chosen beach and 9 intrepid fishos, men and woman braved the elements to battle the cold and a mildly brown sea. The fish lay in wait for our arrival, thinking they could outsmart us. They couldn't this time with a good number of red cod weighed and one lone couta. Chris Morris was the pot champ with a 1.88kg beast. Pairs winners of the BM to be advised. Catching fish is a rare event off a beach these days, particularly summer species, but today was one out of a very sparse box. Noticeably absent though, Kahawai. Noticeably present about 700 metres out the typical HB trawler
