I still favour Daiwa reels Trev... been around a million years,my first from memory was a 7700 squarebum lasted for 500 years before servicing was required but that was only because the lube manufacturer went out of business 100 years earlier!

Seriously, if you want a rocksolid reel the GS series are bloody near bullet-proof, just like the old Penn 9500s etc.Old technology, but undeniably well-proven and still killing fish everywhere!
I now use the Emblems for casting, have four/five different models and have NEVER had to return one!!

When after shy snaps at night or just for everyday freezer fishing, I like big line capacity baitfeeders and have Okuma Coronados, both heavy shaft and lighter shaft models and love the stainless steel guts in these reels.STRONG AS!!

Only ever had a minor niggle with the manual reverse lever on one reel once but boy these reels have had a hiding too!
Along with my Emblems they've endured hundreds of hours of rain, salt, hot, cold, frost and UVs, swum in the 90 and the BOP,slurped west coast silty chocolate water, eaten sand and are STILL going strong.

There's good gear out there and there's shit.
All you have to do is decide what(and who!)is worthy of your hard-earned buck.
    Negotiate hard... twist arms.
