You are right. Unfortunately with rising fuel costs these guys will go closer to port but thats extreme! Used to love watching these guys going up and down in from of ec in the autumn. The only good news perhaps is that the fleets are shrinking in sizes as the smaller boats cant keep up with rising costs so beaches further away from home could be more productive? I can remember the days of pair trawling and the damage that did just try and catch a snapper back then and you made the news! At least today we have closed areas and reasonable fish stocks. Now I expect the "back at the turn of the century...." stories of how good it used to be put have you looked at the gear they used then? Amazed to see filleted snapper was $33 a kilo yesterday at New World as I bought the bait which was cheaper than the packeted stuff at a garage! (some ones on a winner there and thats for the salted stuff).
