Well the cherry tree seems to be the indicator. WSCC hosted Opotiki surf fishing club this weekend for the interclub trophy.
Hot sun and light winds, stretching from the heads to Tarawera river we set forth.
Dark horse and noted snap wrangler George Maunder scouted about and parked himself next to us and with in 5 mins a goldfish in the bin.
Then 1 1/2 hours later the same result, thinking the fish were snobs as we hadn't a bite for hours we switched to anchovies to sweeten them up.
that did the trick and all night everybody fished hard.
Results 24 anglers fished, 48 snapper were weighed and 10 of those were over 4 kgs (Gutted and gilled)
Phil Brierley took out heaviest snap and Tessa cooper the ladies with a 3.9 kg snapper (G&G)
Tarawera (the venue for the Snapper 1000) produced nearly all the fish weighed and it can only get better as it it warms up more.
Opotiki as always are a great club to fish with and against and were humble in their defeat and promise to give us a run for our money next year when we are in their territory.
Opotiki scored 500 points WSCC 1660 points.
The snapper are here folks and will only get bigger and better as we run up to our Snapper 1000 get your entries in now as the deadline looms and come and enjoy the eastern bay.
PS the lucky ticket draw will be a DAIWA Saltiga surf 6000 valued at $900 plus a rod to mount it on.
    Cheers for now
