Cool catch Mark. I kicked off last year on almost the same day in the area you had your success (there abouts). I was trying to snag that 20 pounder..(never got it)..but from memory over a 2 week period ended up with 2 @ 4kg, 1 @ 3.5kg, 5 @ 1.5kg - 2kg, 1 @ 7.3kg, some wee fellas and about 8 gurnard. So its pretty cool to hear that you were cursed with one of those rare pesky 4kg ones. I was using tuatua and pilchard heads for bait.
Anyway there is a vacancy now in the old spot as I have moved over to Vancouver Island for a while to chase the Salmon, Halibut, and 20 pound steelhead rainbow trout. Success has been good so far with a 23 pound spring salmon being a highlight (part of a double hook-up, the other guys was 25 pound) and a day chasing Halibut resulting in 6 chickens (thats 30 pounders). I am just off to rig up with a new combo steelhead/salmon line for shore casting as I heard a rumour that Port Alberni is going to produce on of its best runs this year...target is a 30 pound spring salmon, and then a 15 pound steelhead for the winter.
keep those success stories coming as its really helping the home sickness as its starts getting cold and dark here!!
