    A simple tip that has stood a very long test of time. Most of us use beads of various colours, some fluoro, just above the bait. Most use red or yellow and these can work admirably. However, if Kahawhai or trevs are in the area and they are not on the feed, try using a whole, small anchovy secured with bait elastic, and use two or three imitation pearls above the hook. I might add gurnard are not shy of taking the bait with this attractant either.

    Pearls are a natural small fish colour, you can even get a fish attack the hook and the bling as you are making a retrieve. I have used this method in a couple of countries and for some unbeknown reason this set up can work very well.

    Yes it does work well on local beaches.

    These pearl coloured beads are available from most dressmaking or craft shops, they cost about $3-00 for a decent sized container.
