We used to get a really good news letter that would be the envy of most clubs but have not seen one for a while. Looking forward to an invite as this is a good event.

I have tried to send three emails to Gannet and not one of them has gone now I may not be the best on a computer but I can normaly send an message to the adress that I am given.Some of the members of the Foxton Surfcasting Club are very disappointed that we have not received an invitation to attend,as they were looking forward to participating on a beach that they have never fished before.The email adress that I have was copied letter for letter from that clubs newsletter and is as follows capt.gannet@xtra.co.nz is this incorrect can any-one tell me please.

Right this is what I want to know from you fishermen out there.What would make a great pub promo, something you would really like to win. In the past we have given away fishing gear and the like but those who go to the ninety comp already have the best of gear, so don't want fishing gear as a prize.Someone suggested a set of 4x4 tyres,that is one suggestion who has some others. Yes and expecting the rude ideas as well

Just had a read back over the posts and I must learn to read posts properly. Yes they were on rods. Phill was joking when he said i loved longlines. I don't own a torpedo but do have a longline on my boat. These were caught between 630pm and 930pm. As for bait, after gutting them all we need to find a Tackle shop that stocks fresh "snapper biscuits" then work out how to put them on a hook!! They were chocka with them!!

I have seen that snapper biscuit scenario myself, and heard others talk about it. It's made me question why people think it's so important to have juicy baits with blood dripping everywhere, and to have no confidence in, for example, octopus as bait because it's not juicy at all. Every surfcaster should munch on a snapper biscuit at some time and think deeply on this

Is that with red or white wine Mark. The snapper do the same down this way also. Maybe they need a bit of roughage, how true do you think it is about them needing squid coming into the sparning season.

With squid I think it is just that squid are at their biggest as the snapper move in to feed up before spawning. Also that squid start to school up for the spawning about the same time.

doesnt look too good,looks like big swells and strong east sou easters,i know this is thursdays map but the next couple of days dont look much better.

edit that:the weather looks good and the southerlies not to strong,probably alot of swell left over though....im not sure why i care as im not goin over

Faces to names Panser. Damm man thats a huge risk you are taking. Some of them are downright ugly critters

. Mako and Pipi look pretty good to me. Its just that they don't get to go fishing. Sue is pretty kind on the eye, But the ole man with her, well, lets just say he has seen better years.
Oh a clue, his name starts with G and his surname with K. Well thats a bloody big clue. If he actually manages to catch a fish, you will hear him before you see him. And no its not the legend " Gary Kemsley" its "Geoff Knight" from the "Poor Knights Islands. Now he is a true legend. Eh Gary

Ill get a prize list up if I can find Ray B, might be tomorrow now the pressures off.
Top fish over 4kgs, quite a few caught in challenging conditions. Dropping swell at about 1.5m and laced with weed. Remember Wanganui Neil, Jase and others a couple of years back? Similar frustrations.
Some nice reults for those who hit the right spots. A limit for Chad and two prizes, Top team weighed in their 4 fish for 12kgs. Nice work when most of us struggled to get a bite. One hilight for me was being able to help Panser slide one in. Well deserved.
Ill keep the winner secret for now.

Not the dreaded red weed Gary? Got out for a look in the weekend. More a reccie, but managed a 1.7kg John Dory (can't get the pic off my camera). Also managed a follow from a 10-12kg kingi on a spinner, 4 small snapper and an acrobatic eagle ray that really was pissed it was hooked.

You cant drive on most of papamoa beach anyway. Not needed as there are tons of beach access ways all along the beach ( 100m walk )

Snapper 1000 is Thornton Beach near Whakatane.
If staying at Papamoa try Taylor's Reserve or Karewa Parade, turn right at quad bike ramp at Karewa Parade and walk down to around end of houses. No vehicles on beach at Karewa except council licensed quads with road rego's. $450 on spot fine if caught by Mr Plod

Best fishing is after dark, hope this helps.
