I'm interested in how various clubs around the country run their annual points ladders.
We, the North Shore Surfcasting Club, use a straight weight=points system. Minimum fish length of 50cm for eligibility, no points multipliers (as they do at the Nationals for example). Recently we introduced catch & release eligibilty where photographic evidence along with a club member witness are required.
The IGFA introduced length records recently. Length mats are available through the IGFA or through the NZ Fishing Competition. I know that several of our members have started making noises into whether we should be looking at a length points system, with species modifiers similar to the Nationals weight modifier. There's some working out to be done as to how it would work but I'm quite interested in the idea.
I am also wondering if this is a way forward for clubs to be able compete nationally, outside of the Nationals? It could become part of the NZACA, have a unified points structure across all species and could be awarded annually at the Nationals.
I'm keen to hear how your club runs it's ladder and your thoughts on a National club ladder.Brenton Cumberpatch North Shore Surfcasting Club, 2012 Treasurer.
Since I have been Club Captain of Pania I have introduced several Comps that has double points, one being a field weekend that targets two types of fish that also gains double points. We also run a "Take a Mate" weekend where the mate you take (who cant be a member) has his fish added to your weigh in bag. Some thoughts
Cheers for that Yoey, nice thoughts for something different. So the double points is only for the two target species?Brenton Cumberpatch North Shore Surfcasting Club, 2012 Treasurer.
The two target species occur on what I call the "Le Mans" start. All those fishing must be at headquarters by 5.00am for the draw. We draw one easy fish to catch and one hard fish to catch, those becoming your target species. All those at the draw receive double points for whatever of the two drawn fish they weigh in. The only others accepted at the weigh station are those that may be pin fish but they are not eligible for points. . At our last one I caught that 10.585kg Snapper. No points. The other time I award double points is at our "Pania Shield" challenge between us and several other clubs. The reason I do this is because of the shortening of the fishing times.
Funny how we take our own catches out to three decimal points but dont bother too much with that with others catches.
"I caught a 10.595kg snapper last season but the best Yoey got was just over 10kgs".The snapper don't know where the car park is! Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.
