Loose Joints..

One of my 222's has become very loose in the join.
The guides need realigning after each cast.
Is there anything, short of permanently making it a one-piece, that can be done?

Duct tape around the join might be the cheapest option I think.

spray graphite(temp fix)just build it up in small layers, also nail varnish again small layers or get Kilwell to replace the tip section(warranty)

Thanks scuzzy - is "spray graphite" available at normal paint shops? Mitre10 perhaps?

Send it to me at T.T I have developed a system to fix this sort of problem . I check every rod I sell now as I have been caught out with even expensive rods having a problem . If you send it back to Kilwell send them both sections .

It doesn't matter which brand you buy at some stage the joints will wear .

just wax it up before each outing, i have a 222 and got the same prob, works for me.

I believe SONIK have designed around this issue with the longer than usual ferrule

all brands have issues- with new rods they can be slightly over ground causing a loose join over time, with older blanks its normally just wear and tear or a bad design or even damage - split or hair line crack, the worse thing to do is attack it with sand paper. We do have a product coming in soon for this purpose- will re-build the graphite on the spigot join

Been there done it. We have successfully repaired a number of rods from Abus to Sonics, the high production rods are more likely to have a problem due to mass production .
We have found the high dollar lower production Rods are less likely to have loose joints but like anything they wear over time, pitty it's not as easy to fix the users.

have had same thing with 222s and even top range casting rods just from use.buy some seal tite bowstring wax,it is a silicone lubricated wax, made in the usa.may need to go to a archery shop. rub on tip section build up a little,heat with heat gun or cig lighter.push join togather and work in and out until wax dries again.

. My Conoflexes are 10 years old and the spigots are near to crapping out. Don't want to lash out on new rods just yet.

Be warned I have seen graphite rods bind up using wax, don't know why but it worked on the old fibreglass rods.

Tight fitting spigot joints should just have a light rub down with a soft lead pencil.

Wax is a stop gap measure. Either the graphite spray or send it back to kilwell they can resize the joint sometimes or replace the tip.

I fixed my loose joints by buying a new cigerette roller from Uncle bens. Cheap as.
