all brands have issues- with new rods they can be slightly over ground causing a loose join over time, with older blanks its normally just wear and tear or a bad design or even damage - split or hair line crack, the worse thing to do is attack it with sand paper. We do have a product coming in soon for this purpose- will re-build the graphite on the spigot join
