HB Fishing.

Beautiful late afternoon and evening. Sea absolutely perfect, returned home with a couple of fry-pan sized Kahawhai and a gurnard of exactly one kilo.

Two torpedoes alongside us with family groups really enjoying themselves. Sadly they never took a fish but were resetting their lines as we left. I hope they took a feed home as we did. Great to see people enjoying our wonderful beaches.

Well said Hangler. Fantastic looking sea at the moment . Heard a nice 10lb Snapper was taken rod fishing near Teawanga reef last nite. Encouraging to hear.

That's great news. I must say I loved watching the family groups with the long lines, even the children were helping with baiting up and clipping on (or off) with the hooks. Great for kids, those are possibly tomorrow's anglers who one day will very probably be changing over to a rod.

My late wife couldn't cast a rod but she loved winding the line onto the beach reel when I fished with a kite. I caught the fish, later she operated the fry pan, what fabulous teamwork.

Welldone racepics me and my dad took a mate from work who just wanted to catch his first snapper. Tahaenui was our pick tonight with 1m swell and 10knts off shore wind was picture perfect! first to come knocking was 1kg gurnard next cast my rod bent over again to see a 33cm snapper and as i was pulling this in my other rod took off as well which my mate Dave was able to bring in his first snapper which weighed in at 1.6 kilos was a great fish. all up a great night with 2 kahawai 2 snapper a good lemon and 2 gurnard. best night iv had in a long time!

Nice work.....Summer has officially arrived on Hawkes Bay beaches. Snapper coming in all over the place now.Wairoa's Whakamahi Beach seems to be the pick at present but you can find them anywhere I am not fishing.

The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

I got 1 gurnard and a snapper straylining with a 3oz ball sinker was magic. pillie and fresh grey mullet was the go last night anchovies just got red cod!

I know that feeling, I was fishing with Racepics last night and only caught 1 small ky, a coutta and a lemon....

Still, nice to actually have something on the end of the line.

AndyG, not knowing where you are based, were you fishing in Hawke's Bay?

Yeah that was me,my first ever snapper surfcasting, (i only started in Jan,before that was a boat fisherman.)and it was 5kg/11 lb and caught on fresh occy.

Any more details Snappa? from what ive heard fishing was very hard Sunday and heard nothing of Saturday.
