North of wairoa

Hi heading north of wairoa today for an overnight fish dont have a 4x4. wheres the best spot to try. Hope someone has some pointers fished whakaki last friday from 8 pm til 8am only one snap and big lemon. hope to hook a few more tonight. Has anyone tried slide baiting for the kings up that way.

I fished Whakaki about 500m down the track from the carpark.
Pretty good success really - got a few small snaps and half a dozen carrots

Anchovies and pink bling were the flavour of the day. Nothing was interested in my pillies, skipjack or prawns.
No bites at all after dark, got a big horse-mackerel at sunrise but nothing wanted to eat that either.

Nice work Race.... looks like it was worth the trip up that way. Should've gone myself, just Kahawai for me locally.
And shano1, nice meeting you the other weekend at Whakaki (Friday night, you came over and said Hi as I was about to climb in the truck for a sleep), will keep an eye out for you on the beaches... or if you want a fishing mate at some stage let me know.

is Whakaki a beach you can drive a 4x4 on ,would like to head up that way and loose the snapper v card , or any other places worth having look At

It's too soft for 4wd driving, but there is a track you can take which goes behind the dunes for a bit...

This spot is about 500m down from the car park - the track goes on but it starts to get into serious 4wd territory (very soft) so I wasn't game to go further.

Headed up on Sat arvo and settled in at old blucks pit rd i think its called. Set up for the night with 6 rods between two of us. First bait to be hit was big and angry pretty much made mince meet of my old fav the silster strayliner with thirty pound mono on a ledger and really close only about 30 mtrs out. Rest of night was ok 2 snap 4 gurnad a few good ky a few trevs and a eagle which was put back to bend a few more beachrods... I know what ya are saying about the makrell racepics we landed heaps of them they are the biggest ive seen from the beach some are now salted and ready for the the next trip.. Great trip and am now planning the next one.

thanks very much. is there normally a cut track you can see on the beach and it would be towards Napier ? easily found , be my first time heading up that way , also tides i see high is around 2.20pm this coming Friday sat, would i be better off wait till the weekend after for a 7.30pm high tide and fish over that ? any knowledge to help me land one two would be great

hbfisher. this weekends no good bro. check the forecast. souherly and swell mate. for day time fishing, tahanui is the best bet, whakakis been great later on in the day over the past week. big gurnard around too

AndyG im always keen for fishing day or night man always up for new fishing adventures. Meet a few pania members the next morning. the beach was getting rather crowded when I headed home at 11am...

yes i do see that looking deeper into it so best bet is to hold off and see what next week brings , yea looking for the late evening fish thanks race for the link looks good
