CRABS!

All fish that i have caught lately have been full of crabs ! so have made up a few floating crab traces.time will tell if they work?

Those are very short traces. I will be very interested in the results of your experiment, I like thinking that is innovative and well outside what is considered to be the conventional square. I for one look forward to you putting this idea to a practical test.

These traces may catch the odd flounder as well Te Hori.
We run our traces a bit shorter down these parts to stop the tangles in our shallow rough water Hangler.

Thanks for that bit of information, Phill, I have never read or heard of that before, and it's such a good idea.

I run my traces through plastic tubing and tangles are not normally a problem. If a trace does do 'the twist' then it's easy to release the 'sea harvester' clip and then the tangle can be attacked from both ends. I would guess the traces I use would be about seventy-five centimetres in length but I hasten to add I can see a lot of merit in keeping the traces so short.

My traces are tubed to hangler, i like to float em they catch well,& give a bit of sercurity to the main back bone line, from sharks etc.

CAUGHT 3 NICE GURNIES & A LEMON FISH 2DAY ON FLOATING CRAB TRACES ! THANKS FOR TE BAIT PHIL, GLAD YOUR MY MATE ! Hangler, also glad Rex AINT ! Did not loose any floats today kept fish oil off em.

Well done te-hori. It's always a great feeling when an experiment comes to fruition and puts a meal on the table. May I say thank you for sharing your ideas with others on this site, something that always gives me a great deal of pleasure also.

Now all we need is to find out where to buy crayfish tails at a price where they can be used for bait ... don't hold your breath though.

Next thing to try is using real crabs for bait ! i see gary reakons they good cut in half, one thing we got plenty of is crabs,so will give it a go.
