HB fishing

My trucks in the garage so I havent been able to go out for a throw for a few weeks now. Just wondering whats happening out there?

Up until this present blow, the local beaches (Napier seafront) have been turning in on with some excellent conditioned kahawai. Whilst many may not find that to their liking, these full bodied, fit fighting fish have been brilliant for sport ... and of course the culinary factor.

Had a look at Marine Parade this afternoon, I hasten to add not fishing, just drove along the parade. A nasty looking sea, big dumpers on the beach and the water is quite coloured. The rivers are also dirty with the overnight and morning rain. I think it will take at least a week, and a large change in wind direction, before the rods will be given a workout. Oh well, back to the golf course.

Yes the Napier web cam doesnt show a great sea at the moment. Just have to wait for a few days I guess. Cant do much abou the weather.

I travelled the Hastings/Napier motorway this morning, all the rivers are like chocolate. I can't see them clearing for several days so it may be a good time to work on the gear.

Get away from the rivers. Waimarama, Ocean Beach and Waipatiki are seldom affected for those of you fishing close to home.
Be ready for moki at Waimarama and Waipatiki at the moment.

Are Moki still around Gary? I thought with the colder weather they would be gone. Thats something to have go for.

Moki are visiting us from the south where the water is even colder. The have great temp. tolerence.

I think it's pretty fair to say this weekend the rods and gear can be left safely in storage. At present, weather conditions are producing more wind than a dozen good curries.

On the positive side this first real cold snap of winter could prove to advantageous once the sea relaxes and becomes fishable. Colder water temp's will get red cod and spiny backs closer to surf-caster's offerings. Hopefully all bodes well for the next month or two at least.

Fear not, withdrawal symptoms can be put on hold.

I fear unless there is a huge change in wind direction, the only monsters will be the size of the waves.

Never say die! Some good soft baiting will be available in the harbour and river estuaries as they clear. Tuki is fishable tonight.

With luck, if this present spell of settled weather continues, there is every chance of wetting a line toward the end of the week. The rivers should start clearing quite soon and then we can discover just what piscatorial changes have taken place in the couple of weeks.
