Overhead Reel Advice

I have always been an eggbeater man. Have a couple of tica baitrunners which have been fine. However I would like to have a go with an overhead combination so looking for advice on a reel. Someone suggested a Daiwa SL30 might be a good place to start but keen to get your advice on what might be a good reel to start with. I realise it might depend a bit on what rod I pair it with. Have not worked out that bit yet but will probably pair with a 14'6 lightweight rod similar to Kilwell SLX, prevail, that sort of thing. Cheers Steve.

We have a Prevail combo for sale super safe reel and the not bad either , a good deal for under $500 bucks . Give us a call at the shop tomorrow .

Sl30x or 20 are great solid reels that will last for yonks. Rods for OH are a bit scarce . Killwell will make you a rod but they tend to be custom orders .
Sonik and anyfish anywhere also have factory rods that are made as OH specific along with the prevail.

Making sure that the reel is set up right for beach work is a very important step 1st .

If you go Daiwa, the SL20SH is significantly easier to control than the 30. I have a 30 but only use it for heavy line and short casting into reefy areas. I also put some heavier oil in the bearings of the 30 to make it behave

Agree with Neil - Daiwa's are solid - I now have 3 of them XSHA 30'S...Combined with a six and bait afaw rod or sonik sk4...My first choice setup...

I now have four dark side reels , 2x Abu 6500 mag elites 1x Daiwa 7ht mag blue, 1x Daiwa 7ht black 1x sl30shx. I think I have been lead astray .
CD and Conoflex for me.
