Proper puleys

Just wondering where I can find these things have been using crane swivels for the pulley on my pulley/yoke rigs but have found after a serious fishing session today the trace that the sinker is attached to is chaffed after sliding through the tube of the crane swivel, so was thinking of trying to locate some pulleys to try and rectify this issueor I will go back to normal swivels and pig tailed mono lol.

Results of todays session in Kawhia with my pulley rig was using a floating trace on it and my first time using impact shields which I am now sold on even my first attempt at using crimps held up

These are what you're looking for.

I've found though, that if you use large diameter line such as 60lb fluorocarbon for your backbones, they tend to jam as sand grains get in between the line and the plastic of the swivel bead.

Maybe you can get them in larger sizes? Phil?

Used a lot of those but I add a swivel to the top and put a small zip tie around the centre . Probally not needed but .....

I was looking for the actual pulleys other option is i rebuild the rig with new mono after each outing got another two pulleys made up in the tackle bag as backups but would like for them to last a bit longer than one trip I do use 60 pound black magic tough trace for the backbone and 30lb mono or 40lb BM supple trace for the business end but looking at going flourocarbon for my traces instead of the mono.

I would still rebuild the trace anyways. All it takes is for one small nick to lose a trophy fish.

spot on neil it will be getting rebuilt to save any failures as it was yesterday I failed to check the joins on my surfcaster after catching the kahawai then sent my rod tip flying into the water was not amused as it was the second time ever I had done that in all of the years I have fished lol

Use fluorocarbon for your backbone too. It is harder wearing than the mono. I use 80lb coral pink stren fluorocarbon for backb0ne and 50lb for the traces.....most of the time.
It is best to change these regularly.

I use the Proper Pulley as provided by TT, all the time. Brilliant little device. No more kinked mono, aka rats tail. Cost bugga all, and do the trick for me.

I assume you are putting the zip-tie around these.

Is that to stop the trace from looping over and being caught in the clip?
I get quite a lot of that happening if I use a genie clip on the end of the shockleader to attach the gear to. The clip seems to act like a hook and snags the trace.
Best to use a swivel on the shockleader and the clip on the pulley so it's facing down?

found out what was chaffing the mono it is the plastic cover that the black magic trace ono comes in there is a few years of grit build up on the edges so have binned the lot as it was also looking a bit cracked so it was not the crane swivel causing th eissue at all I should have noticed or felt it in teh first place. Time to get a new lot of 60Lb trace line this week for the backbones and some more line for the new reel that is arriving on courier tomorrow.

Main line swivel then clips.
I have either zip tied them or heat shrinked them. Either way just so the line cant clip through there.

will have a gander at the other tackle shop in Te Awamutu on thursday when my pay goes in to see what they have might have to be black magic at this stage as I want to get good quality mainline for the penn I have arriving tomorrow. would order online but I will be heading out fishing again on friday or saturday if the weather gods play ball again so won't have time to wait.

Have been following your posts with interest, mate I live in Te Aroha,always looking for fishing buddies,have been a member of this message board for a couple of years now,and the advice/hints etc have always been top notch from these guys,as to why I use pully rigs as part of my arsenal in the surf/beach areas,build my own rigs but get my clips etc off Phill at TT (which reminds me I need more proper pulleys and splash downs).Mainly fish Bowentown, Waihi beach and Thames and places in between, Homunga bay if I can handle the climb back,probably help each other out here tackle wise as well,give us a call (0278141637, 078847867) when ever you heading my way

Gidday Tom I used to live on the Te Aroha - Gordon Road when I was pulling tits you would be more than welcome to join us for a fish whenever we head over that way I only surfcast over there as the other half is not confident on the bricks and for safety sake will not take her onto rocks plus she is in the process of learning to use a rod and reel (she was bought up using handlines only)so that part is easier to do off the sand.I will private message you my landline details as I do not want to give my contact details in view of public.

To stop the traces getting tangled in the upward facing pulley clip - you can always use a different type of clip, like a closed one stolen from a snap-swivel

Jesus H christ double post edit one and both get done arrrrgh.

Got some berkley 50 pound coral pink flouro from fish city today was all I could find apart from black magic not even the folks in the town I live had a decent range to choose from.
