White Island expoldes

I was just leaving Opotiki when it blew. By the time I got to Ohope is was ready for a photo with a 4km high plume of ash. Acouple of hours later I took a look from Whakatane and there was no smoke in the sky at all. Impressive! The snapper don't know where the car park is! Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

White Island my bum. Its a Sperm Whale venting with a bit of Garys trick photography. At least its a 2013 photo and not a mudfish. Cheers Trev aka Hardy Time to go fishing again

This sort of venting of White Island wrath is a common place occurrence. It coincides perfectly with angler's exasperation at the advent of the establishment of the Volkner's marine reserve, and their [anglers] perceived loss of a Kingfish haven. Has it made a difference? Not one bit.
