Rubbish Fishing.

Spent a couple of hours at Awatoto this afternoon. The fish weren't cooperative but there were a few items well worthy of a photograph. I have sent this picture to a local newspaper.

When you think about it, the council partly has themselves to blame for all the rubbish on our beaches and riverbeds.
I'm old enough to remember at time when dumping your rubbish at the city tip didn't cost anything.
In those days the beach and river rubbish problem was very low to non-existent.
Now we must pay to dump our rubbish, and as we can see many are not prepared to pay, or just cant afford to.
$10-$20 to dump the rubbish legally, on top of driving it to the tip (sorry "transfer Station")
I'm not condoning these idiots who do this, just suggesting if the rubbish tip was a free service, this carry on would be a lot less.

Problem is you can't cure laziness... not matter how free you make the tip, you'll still get idiots who think, why make 2 separate trips (one to the dump and another for fishing)when I can make one to accomplish the lot...
Scenes like this is partly why I don't fish Awatoto much

We get the same down here . The council down here put the prices up and cut the transfer stations open hours. We probably pay some clown in the council $100 grand to give us less. Anyway Hangler did you pick them up and take them around to the Mayors house for further investigation.

Awatoto has become 'the hood' of the beaches unfortunately.
When we were there last there was a dog, (a pit-bull type breed) running around chasing and barking at every car that drove along the track. The owner, fishing just down from us, didn't care.

TeAwanga straight is becoming another unpleasant place to fish as well. Its like trying to fish across a race track with all the bikes and quads hooning up and down the beach. /

Not that either of these places offer stunning fishing, quite the opposite in fact, but they are (or were) a good local spot for a couple of hours at the beach.

Sorry, Phill, I drive a small, near new Suzuki Swift not a rubbish truck. I have no idea who the mayor of Napier is as I live in Hastings. I took the picture in the opening post and sent it to the local newspaper, maybe they will print it in Monday's issue ... and maybe they won't.

There is a very popular, widely used walkway that runs the entire length of Napier seafront. Surely someone must have seen these rubbish bags being dumped ... or maybe not.
