So how was the fishing?

Now that winter is here, how was your fishing summer when compared to last summer? Or previous summers?
Better?
The same?
Worse?

For me, not as good as the previous season. Looking forward to improving things this coming summer.

Did you manage to tick any special species off your bucket list?

Great question race look forward to seeing some answers.
As for me I had an absolute shocker, id say I fished more and caught less.
Although I have challenged a few perceptions on the calendar I have gone back to the basics and slightly improved. I do think this coming year will be a boomer as this year has been a funny one with things a little odd.

I had the opposite in BOP, fishing less and catching more.
I went closer to home and was more successful than ever. Papamoa really turned it on this season with my best bag numbering 8 good snapper.
In previous seasons it's been a hard slog for 15 to 20 snapper, this year I got well over 40.
Papamoa has been dead for around month now but
last week tried Hauone stream which turned out to be a blast. Landing 1 45cm snapper and 8 kahawai. I lost a number of snapper tho dropping at the first strike, which I put down to blunt hooks.
I hope there's others which didn't do too badly and here's looking forward to next season.

I got one 30cm snapper last summer compared to about 5 the year before here in HB

lived in the mount/across the road to papampoa beach all my life and only started to surfcast as a novice in the last couple months before i left

it's ok though, there's a few fish down here too.

I didn't fish much at all through the summer but i do remember catching a few for the small amount of fishing time. I remember everywhere being very productive around the time of the taranaki comp. Not very good at keeping a tally.

Bout the same to be fair, plus being one of my ticks was accomplished by beating my previous PB moki

Plenty of "dot" days for me also, still managed
a kingfish ,a PB moki,a snapper and gurnard,also lots of kahawai especially in autumn.One thing I didn't
catch was paddle crabs.So no lemons for me.

Id have to say the Snapper fishing this season was pretty good where ever i travelled . Note the word travelled, but i do put a lot of time and effort into my fishing when i do venture away. A couple of pbs Trev over 5kg and kahawai ova 3.5kg, a few unusual captures and jokingly set myself a goal of landing 4 solid snapper in our club boundaries , and achieved this with a 19,21,23,25lbr snappers. It was fantastic to share some good times with other club members and fishing buddies too. Only thing i must say is its a damm shame our Hawkesbay gurnard fishery is in such a bad state. We had legendary status for gurnard fishing in HB but this has been in a state of decline in the last three years

. Lets hope the fish gods shine on us all threw the coming seasons ahead. Cheers.

Just south of mimiha stream produced a few nice snaps, a bunch of Gurnard, and a few kahawais and lemons on a flying night visit with a mate surfcasting queens saturday nite in a cool southeasterly wind. Top bait Pilchard NO SURPRISES

Worst season for ages for me due to crap weather when I had a chance to get out and being crook a lot of the summer and just not having the energy or determination to really chase the fish. Hence not too much fishing time. Cracked one goal I set myself and that was a kahawai over 3kgs. A few lemons, mainly small, a bunch of small kahawai and that was about it. I did better on trout that can be caught when the weather is against us. I echo the sentiments about the gurnard. dissapearance. Maybe next season!

The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.
