After considering and pondering recent postings regarding casting in particular I thought I would pass on my ,I hope constructive comments and observations. I welcome any input as I am sure Yoey and his team are watching. The opportunity to have a world class casting events based on international rules has been lost with the dropping of the UKSF based rules. The sponsorship potential that that could have involved local company's and multinationals has also taken a hit. I keep hearing about our members that didn't cast because they felt disadvantaged because the top casters used specialist equipment and that is true to a point but not in all cases. Tackle Tactics was a sponsor and regrettably we were no longer required but that's the past. Another opportunity missed was to use the reluctance of the average fisherman caster to create a sports man class so they would only cast with casters of similar equipment and ability. A Pro caster class would give members something a goal to aspire to. The same as golf, tennis and rugby etc . Another class could have been sponsored by a multinational company such as Purefishing just as an example were rods, reels and line was supplied on the day so everybody competed with exactly the same gear. This would encourage rod manufactures to improve there equipment as it would be field tested on a regular basis with large cross section of users. Motorsport has found this to be very successful , gaining a large numbers of competitors using this formula. Just my thoughts , it wouldn't be hard to reverse what I believe to be some missed opportunities . Please please add your thoughts as I am sure the executive would appreciate the feed back.
Thinking, this has merit but needs the right response. The snapper don't know where the car park is! Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

Over the past two weeks I have been looking at the new surf rods that will be on the market next season . What has been quite amusing is they all want to know how well they compare to each other in both price and performance. This is new. The question is how can we turn this to our advantage.

I have sat back and waited to see what sort of feedback you would get to your post Phill and it is disappointing that the feedback is effectively nil. I have been under the impression for a few years now, that there are quite a number of casters out there who wanted something a bit more professional than is currently available. There has also been talk of casters wanting something that produced true Champion Casters, not just the best of who turned up on the day. I believe to produce true Champion Casters, you need a competition that requires some sort of qualification to enter such as minimum distances or pre Championship elimination rounds. Whatever competitive casters want, they will not get it unless they speak up or, alternatively, create a Championship that meets their needs. A good example of a casting championship that identifies the country's top casters is the UKSF (Google it), it would be very easy to take what they have created and run the same type of Championship here in NZ.
