Longliners success

Torpedo fishers are catching a few desirable fish from Hawkes Bay beaches. Last week two snapper, 38 cms and 43 cms were caughtin a set at LeQuense Rd and at North Shore Rd. two gurnard were caught along with kahawai and spiney backs. Looks hopeful for an early start this spring.

The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

Isn't it sad that we celebrate the catching of 3 or 4 fish by someone using 20 hooks over 500+ metres of sea bed...

I can understand the snapper being unusual in August, but the Gurnard is (or was) an all season fish.
Such is the state of our fishery.

I agree Chris but at least it shows theres something out there. Should I haul the rods out though? Yeah of course I should.

Yep, a huge amount of water between fish though. I don't hold out much hope of Gurnard, but even a Kahawai would be nice, might give it a nudge somewhere this weekend. The smoker hasn't been used for months.

any times worth a fish .gotta be in to win . went out ta last night managed a nice fat lemon . was a preg female so she went back to do her deed. must of looked like a nutter out there last night tho

My comment at the start of this was not a celebration , in fact the opposite I just wanted surfcasters to know that there is some hope.
