Flatfish rigs

After googling what the UK anglers use to catch Flounder etc, I made these. Now to source some worms or other suitable bait..

Marine worms are certainly a good bait, likewise crabs that have thrown their shell in the growing process and are in the soft stage. Another bait reckon to have merit for New Zealand flounder are whole kernels of sweetcorn. I have no idea why this bait should figure on their menu but it does work.

Glad to see I am not the only person who uses UK websites to pick up hints and tips, many of which work very well in our waters.

Once I start surf casting again, hopefully in the next two weeks, there is a bait rig I will be trying, this from a UK freshwater fishing website. I am certain this really holds promise for our local beaches ... more later.

Where to find Marine worms in HB?
I did try the corn on Sunday, but only for a couple of hours. At least the crabs didn't eat it.

What size are the hooks? Love to give this rig a try.

They are 1/0 hooks, on 8kg trace.

I think hooks are too big ...... try a size 2. I've dug marine worms in Auckland a type of small ragworm, need estuary with exposed mudflats at low tide. Use a garden fork not a spade.

what about Pandora pond on the highway side there is that mud flat on the left driving in from bayview.there is always birds working at low tide. good idea using a fork .even one with a nice ark to turn over that 3to 4 inch depth . be a nice dirty job

I've tried the corn baits a couple of times unsuccessfully.
Pandora pond does hold flounder, as I've seen them there from the old bridge. Unfortunately that area is out-of-bounds for Pania SC events.
I will have a go in there at some stage but it won't be on a field weekend.
