Kingfish time

How about a kingfish for xmas? This is a good time to hook into a kingfish in Hawkes Bay. An easy task in the boat and very likely livebaiting from shore around the rivermouths.
See if you can get one before the end of the year

Ha ha Lads, thats the attitude. I think three is the Pania record at one weigh in (last year) Lets beat it this year.

The reason that we sometimes fail on kingfish is that we are too easily distracted. You need to persevere and keep goods baits out all day when you think that you have found a spot they are frequenting. On a club weekend when you are limited to two rods this can get you down when they are not about. The good news thaough is that you will catch a big snapper on your livebait sooner or later. Not to mention big kahawai and barracouta, tope, blue and mako sharks and john dory. Maybe it is worth consentrating on the livebaits.

I have a theory (which probably wont work, but what the hell)
Burley bombs to attract a lot of baitfish.
Get your livey's out then keep catching a heap of liveys and snip of the tail fin and throw them back in.
They won't be able to go far and 10 or 20 crippled baitfish swimming around has gotta ring a bigger dinner bell than just two!

Cut the top of the tail off they will swim near the surface, cut the bottom off the tail and the swim near the bottom.

Sure to be a few Christmas kingfish for those making the effort. Recent catches have been at Perfume Point, Awatoto, Wairoa River Mouth. ( you wont want to walk here as it has shifted way to the north of the usual exit point)
