Veritas 14'6''

Hi, Ive recently decided on purchasing a Abu Garcia Veritas Nano Tech 14'6" Surf Rod, but after looking online there seems to be a few different models out there (2.0 and LR) and that there were a few issues with the earlier model.

Which model would be the best option for me? I'll be using it with a Shimano Ultegra XSC 14000.

I have a veritas LR and love it I use it with the same reel as you have got as well as an abu garcia overhead for the days I feel like using an overhead reel as this rod can take both types of reels, I was sceptical about the low rider guides when I first got the rod but now I am sold on them.

Thanks for your reply. What kind of distance are you getting with the veritas/ultegra? And also do you have any problems with the shock leader knot snagging on the smaller guides? I'll be using 13lb mono mainline with 40lb mono shockleader.

I use a tapered shock leader and the slim beauty knot to join mainline to leader and have never ever had the joiner knot catching on the guides, as for distance I can not say as I have never dry casted it and have no means of measuring if i did also I have been using 30lb braid for for surfcasting on the east coast unless I am using the overhead then it is mono.

I have not dry cast the LR in competition but I did cast the previous model 203 m with a 100g casting weight .28 line and a 15-40 lb tapered leader the reel was an old Tica Dolphin.
The LR should cast as far as it is a little stiffer in the middle and bottom section. The main advantage of Lowrider guides is the reliability in windy conditions you can not get a guide wrap.

I was always skeptical about the Veritas, but decided to get one as a backup rod, The photos were taken on some of my first practice casts on the beach, After that my 6 and Bait was left in the roof rack and the Veritas was my go to rod for the 90 mile comp. It is a fantastic rod. I got some coasters from Phill and run the reel low down.

Have just brought my self one of these rod . One question on the fit of the sections should it be a flash fit when joining them together or is it OK for these to be about 3 to 5 cm of the inside section still exposed once joined

Standard practice to have a bit of spigot exposed. Lets the rod settle further into the ferrule as the rod wears. Nothing to worry about.

Would depend on how much is actually inside the joint.3 to 5cm seems a lot.

The ferrules don't flush fit I was caught out the same way with these rods when you put the sections together once it stops going in and goes nice and snug do not try to force it any further than that or you will run the risk of buggering it or having lots of trouble getting it apart.

Seems a lot less than 3 to 5cm gap. should be fine.
