1st of the season

Pania Club has its first comp this weekend. I see thay have decided to retain the rules allowing sea creatures other than fish to be weighed in for points. Doesnt make sense to me. Anyway the weathers a bit dodgy and there doesnt appear to be too many fish on the beaches so might have a try for a few starfish, paua, octopus, crabs, crayfish and seaweed this weekend. Should be worth a few points if I can get a bucket full.

The snapper don't know where the car park is!

Nobody in HB gets 10 snaps in a season let alone one outing. The whole club only weighed 21 snaps total for all of last season

I note that back in 1999 Alan Parke weighed in a Crayfish, barely legal. A Paddle Crab of .5kg was weighed in that same year.

Must have been something in the water.

The Pania Club does recognise these two (must weigh in over 500gm's) and also Octopus.

I haven't had any of the previous two over the scales in my time and not likely to either. Starfish, Paua and other shellfish, nope. Wild Seaweed, Sea Lettuce and the BOP Brown nylon grabbing variety

will give you no points either. Never have, never will

It seems thats I upset some (humourless) members of the club with my opening statements in this thread re the weighing in of things other than fish for the club,
My commment was a joke and should not have been taken any other way.
To those I offended I apologise and withdraw my statement.

Its a sad reflection on a fishery that rules allow for such things to be weighted against those who bring good fish to the scales.

Happy to take a bashing as the Club Captain.

Certainly not humourless and not the person who raised an objection.
Pania does have a rule regarding Social media for very good reason that does not need to be replayed out here.

I will add, it certainly is not a ban just a little responsibility.

Re what is allowable to be weighed. Though they can be, if over 500gm, I do not ever expect to weigh a Crayfish or a Crab but certainly may see the odd Occy weighed in and have no problem with that. We are a Club that has made some quality changes that reflect our respect for all we catch and our fishery, as poor as it is.
