And he was almost always out of shape. That Tiger Jeet Singh match was from 1981 and he was as huge as he was in the WWF. I saw a match from 1977 where he's nearly in half-way decent shape. So in just those four years, he put on probably 150 pounds. It's crazy. What was he doing?
I've been reading that he was good at promos. So checked out some promos. His most famous one is about "hard times". He talks about how Ric Flair is giving him a hard time but real hard times are when you're an auto worker who gets replaced by a computer and a couple of similar examples. It's not good, though. I wasn't remotely moved.
And speaking of Ric Flair, he's never impressed me either. He was an old man by the time I saw him in probably 1993 or so. Totally out of shape. Boring matches. Always the same thing. He does a dirty move and then gets on his knees and begs for forgiveness. How is this guy some legendary wrestler? The WCW version of Hulk Hogan?
Again, checked out his earlier work on Youtube and it doesn't impress. I don't know. Maybe you had to be there. Like how the kids today denigrate the work of the Ultimate Warrior and suchlike. I mean, yeah he wasn't a Dean Malenko or Chris Benoit. He didn't have bags of moves. But he was a great character with great intensity.
In other news, one of these Irish companies called me today. It was a very positive conversation with the owner. Said she'll be in London in a few weeks and can meet for an interview of sorts. So that would be great. Move to Dublin.
I was checking out the rent situation. Plenty of self-contained places for like €700/month. I'm paying £700 now so...what is that...£500? Yeah, almost exactly. £505.23. So pretty good savings. And I even saw places as low as €500 but who knows how far out they are and/or how awful they are.
So see how it goes. I'm not 100% that I can do the work that they do, really. But I did really like Dublin. So that would be cool.
