I haven't joined the Freemasons nor would I likely be invited because it's historically (and probably still currently) a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant thing.
There's a Catholic fraternity called the Knights of Columbus. They had (maybe still have) a lodge near my childhood house and Catholic school events (e.g. pancake breakfasts) used to be held there. I don't think there's anything sinister going on. Just a men's club. Maybe women can join too. They do community work. Maybe at some point it was tool for networking to get jobs and whatnot but I think today the average member is at retirement age so this is no longer an issue.
Although, I did see that a classmate of mine is a member. He had it on his Facebook page or Linkedin.
I thought it would be cool to join. Just something to do. Some comraderie. Do some charity work. You know. And maybe it would help with work. Have some connections.
