I talked a few months ago about being disappointed that a work-related forum shut down. But recently I found another one where a lot of the people seem to have migrated to. It's AOL, though. Requires a US phone number to sign up to. Total madness.

So I tracked down the guy who owns this ancient AOL forum and emailed him. He sends a crazy nerdy reply. He does the same job as I do. I won't copy and paste it but just take my word for it. It's the nerdiest shit I've ever seen in my life. And this is like a 50 year old dude.

Okay, so he's looking into that. Fine. Let's see what Facebook groups there are.

The most popular one has the word "punctuation" in the title. "Well, that's just a joke. A little work-related humour."

No. It really is about punctuation. Tens of thousands of members. Talking about comma placement.

So I checked out the second most popular Facebook group. Also about punctuation. "By joining this group you agree that your posts can be corrected. This includes me. I assume you want to be a better worker."

Go fornicate with yourselves, you sexless virgins. I don't want to talk about fucking punctuation. I want to ask about companies who do work in Europe.

Loads of these autistic nerds do this job, though. You see it in the forums big time. People will talk about punctuation and similarly trivial shit like it's the most important thing ever. I've seen it loads in real life too. People asking about comma placement and whatnot. I mean really. NOBODY CARES.

I'd get transcripts returned with the most petty bullshit "corrected". It was laughable. I mean, there's always going to be something. These aren't even corrections. Reasonable people can disagree about "proper" comma placement and suchlike.

Also, I take the view that 90% of the mistakes (or "mistakes") won't be noticed because people are reading this shit quickly. And even if they do notice the mistake, they don't think, "Boy, what an idiot this guy who wrote the transcript is." They just think, "Oh, there's a mistake. It happens to the best of us. Moving on then."

So I did a transcript in Scotland recently. I checked it over a bit because it's a different format than what I've done elsewhere. You have to space things differently, shit like this. Turn it in and said, "I'm sure there are mistakes but just let me know what they are."

Got it back. No complaints. Thanked me for doing it. Not a single correction. How refreshing not to have to deal with anally retentive social retards.
