Although, it's not really the pay so much as the lack of days and lack of hours. So...I'm not working much. That's it's own reward.
I mean, I worked ten days last month. I could have actually worked two more but I refused to work the last two days of the month because I didn't like how I was treated at court the day before and just wanted to take some time off.
But I worked...fewer than 59 hours last week. I say "fewer than" because I think "less than" is grammatically incorrect (though I may be wrong) and because I never bill for less than four hours. So I had six, 4 hour days. Most of those were probably an hour or less. Let's say two hours on average. So I really worked...this is taxing my math skills...59 minus 12, I guess...47 hours.
I did that in a month. Most people do that in a week. So...free time. That's valuable.
I also had nine billed hours for travel. It's a pretty accurate number. So add that, I guess, but most people travel that much but they don't get compensated for it (as I do).
So £1000 for 40 hours of work. That's pretty good. And consider all the delicious free time.
You look at the general strikes throughout history. They weren't asking for more money. They were asking for fewer hours. Money isn't so important. It's the free time that's of real value.
That said, I don't think I'll be able to do these Dubai jobs but man, it would be great. I told them that I can start in June. £350/day. Plus £35 for lunch. And I don't even think you have to provide receipts for that. Like I did a job where they gave you £25 for lunch but you had to provide receipts and if it came out to less than £25, they just paid you what you spent.
So £385/day. The jobs all seem to be at least two days. So...you're looking at £770. Plus there's a travel day that you get paid for. Let's say £1000 minimum. For three days (including the travel day). That's what I'm getting now for ten days.
It actually doesn't seem like much but...the arithmetic checks out. These Dubai jobs pay about three times as much. It's just when you look at how much extra work is involved...it doesn't really seem worth it.
But think of the possibilities for moving. £1000/month. Can move to Asia. That would be cool. Thailand or something. Check out the ladyboy action.
Or even just somewhere in Western Europe. I mean, £1000/month isn't much but it's enough to live on. I'm doing it now in Glasgow. And if I'm only working three days a month, I could also do other work. Get a job at Subway. Although, probably need to speak some German.
But yeah, that would be cool. People would pronounce my name correctly. Everyone would share my passion for punctuality. Could check out the boob action at Oktoberfest. They have those big, chewy pretzels there. Five dollars? Get out of here.
