I think he was suspicious of what, in this day and age, gets called 'virtue signalling'. That people would make a public show of holding beliefs that made them appear righteous to their peers, when really they were just phoneys and hypocrites.
Basically, at least in terms of his online persona, he was a callous, self-centred bigot, and found it hard to believe that everyone else wasn't a callous, self-centered bigot as well.
I mean . . . you could say it takes one to know one. I wasn't exactly a saint during that period myself. And i'm still not.
But at least I never . . . *loads of self-exculpating waffle that, in attempting to differentiate myself from Matt M, only demonstrates the similarities*
