Speaking of things you only have a hazy memory of, Dream of the Week has a potential gold mine this time.
Some guy who makes Youtube videos about pinball was showing me his top secret Robot Wars robot. What made the robot special is that it ran along a pre-defined grid. A bit like Pac-Man, now that I think of it, but more complicated.
There was a central backbone to this grid and then it would branch out into different paths. So it made controling your robot simpler. You didn't have to maneuver the robot in all directions, the robot automatically went forward and you just had to press left or right when it reached a path that you wanted it to veer off to. And the maze, if you like, was so detailed that the robot was able to go just about everywhere.
Here's a quick mock up:
I only did half of it but just recreate the grid on the left on the right.
As I was waking up, I was thinking, "What about the areas where the house robots dwell?" No problem. You can define those areas as no-go areas in the algorithm.
In the dream, this maze was a real thing that you could see on the ground but only if you looked at it a certain way. But in real life, of course it wouldn't have to be real. You just create a computer program to map the layout of the arena and where the robot goes.
Even now, ten minutes after waking up, I think there's something to this. I need to start working on my robot. Fame and fortune awaits.
