How much is the current Job Seekers Allowance? £73.10? That must be out of date. I remember it being £59 when I first came to this country but then it went up to...I'm thinking £73.10. That was ten years ago, though.
No, it appears accurate and up to date. That's pretty ridiculous.
Although, assuming that they also pay your rent through housing benefits, it's enough for a single person to live on. I'm certainly not spending £73.10 a week. Let's say £30/week on groceries. Then you just have clothes and shoes and whatever. It's always tough for me to budget for these things because I buy clothes once every many years.
Transportation, I guess, but if you're not working, where are you going? Again, it's tough for me. I guess people have social lives that may require traveling.
Oh, there's also telephone and internet and electricity. I don't think that housing benefits pay for any of that. I could be wrong. So that would take us probably to £73.10 but I bet there is some benefit that pays for this stuff. Gas and electricity, anyway.
Anyway, with this rent increase, I never received the letter. Then I get an email saying, "You didn't pay the increased rent. We sent you a letter last month. Send us the £35 as soon as possible."
I tore them a new anus, said I never received the letter, I need to have four weeks notice, and I'm not paying. They agreed.
So yeah, as soon as my small claims is over (it's next week) I'm going to start looking for flats in Edinburgh. I was looking for places near the court but they're expensive and a lot of student flats. Still, it might be cool to live somewhere really nice for a little while.
But I also looked for places near Haymarket station. That's also in Edinburgh. It's a major station but Waverley is the main station in Edinburgh. The places are much cheaper and it would only be a 30 minute walk to the court. It's a ten minute train journey from Haymarket to Waverley but I don't think I'd do that. So I'd only have a 30 minute walk to the court (which isn't bad) and Haymarket station would only be a few minutes walk providing good transport links to the rest of Scotland.
I was looking at some voodoo doll toys made in Thailand recently. They're all here:

They have some really weird ones. Why would they make a Ruth Bader Ginsburg doll? Just look for yourself. They have loads of bizarre choices.
But I'm tempted to get the Mark Twain one:
I'm also tempted by "Dreidel Hustler":
It's deliciously anti-semitic but also really confused. It's a Thai person's idea of Jews. They like money and they probably acquire their great wealth by selling dreidels.
