Today was my first day of not porting over any characters, though. It's because I went to check out a flat in Edinburgh.
Oh man. It's a bit of a dive. I was not at all impressed. Not in the slightest. It looks like a semi-modern apartment complex but...just dingy. The inside communal areas look like a prison. A lot of concrete from what I remember. Just shit.
But I put the deposit down anyway. I mean...I've been looking for two months and this is the first place that I thought was decent enough to even view. It's a good location in the sense that it's next to Arthur's Seat and the court isn't far away and the train station isn't too far. The price was what I ideally wanted to pay but only because that level of rent should have afforded me something somewhat upscale. This is not upscale.
It's not the super high end that I was looking at, though. And I saw the neighbours. They're an elderly white couple with two small dogs. I don't imagine that they'll throw many wild parties. And I don't know if there are any shared walls but there may be one. I think it's just three flats on each floor and they're in a "U" shape and I'm not on the bottom of this "U". So it might be okay.
What else? Oh. Neighbourhood looked rather ethnic. But I guess Edinburgh generally looks rather ethnic. I did a search and apparently that neighbourhood is 95% white but...not from what I saw.
There were three other parties viewing the flat. One was a Spanish or something woman. One was a white Scottish couple, I think. The other was a Mohammadan couple.
I guess that's just the nature of renters. It's a lot of foreigners.
What else? I guess that's it. I mean...it's presumably just a six month lease. So it's not a huge committment.
Just have to send the paperwork and shit. Bank statement. Hopefully they won't cause any problems.
Oh, in related news, I called about one flat that I saw and the number transferred me to London. I thought, "This is odd." So I say I'm looking to arrange a viewing for this flat on such and such street for £700. She said, "£700 a week?". I said, "No. What place is £700 a week?".
Then I remember that when she answered the phone, she said, "Foxtons." So I said, "Did you say this is Foxtons?" And she said, "Yes, Foxtons (whatever the branch was)". So I said, "I'm not interested, thank you." and put the phone down.
These are these scumbags who were in all the newspapers years ago for charging thousands of pounds in "admin fees" to tenants.
So apparently Foxtons, a company based in London, is dealing with properties in Edinburgh. Given their poor track record of dealing with properties LOCAL to them, how much worse must they be when dealing with properties 200 miles away?
But yeah, because of scumbags like her, you will find properties in London for £700/week. Glad I got out of there.
