Also weird is we went to a museum/art gallery and there was a bust of Socrates.
Lady friend: Do you know sew-crates? Is that how you say it?
Baron: Socrates, yeah.
Lady friend: He's not Scottish, is he?
Baron: No. He was a Greek philosopher.
Lady friend: Oh. Yeah, I thought he wasn't Scottish because of the name
I couldn't believe it. I didn't let on but come on. How can somebody have never even heard of Socrates? I'm not the world's leading expert on Socrates but I at least knew that he was a Greek philosopher. And I mean ancient Greece. Along with Aristotle, Plato, those sort of guys. Not Scottish...
We were also watching Netflix and, I guess, chilling. She chooses a Will Smith film.
Baron: Is Will Smith your favourite 1990s hip hop star?
Lady friend: No.
Baron: He's not? Who is then? MC Hammer?
Lady friend: No.
Baron: Run DMC?
Lady friend: No.
Baron: So who?
Lady friend: I don't have one. Why would I have one?
Baron: Why is this question offensive? I just asked you who your favourite 1990s hip hop star is.
Lady friend: Well, who's yours?
Baron: Will Smith. No question. See how easy that is? There's no shame in it.
Lady friend: Okay. Did you say Run DMC earlier? I'll say them.
Baron: I'm not even sure if they are 1990s hip hop stars.
(Baron looks it up on Wikipedia)
Baron: No. They're from the 80s.
Lady friend: Okay. I'm not really a hip hop fan.
Baron: Neither am I but Will Smith is definitely my favourite 1990s hip hop star. I don't know why you find this offensive. And you clearly appreciate his work. When I gave you a stack of DVDs years ago to choose something to watch, you chose the Will Smith DVD. And we went to that Will Smith film. And you enjoy the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Why can't you just say that you like his work?
Lady friend: It's not that I like his work, he just seems to choose good projects to work on. He doesn't seem to choose projects just for money.
Baron: Choosing good projects is basically saying you like his work but whatever. I'll remember not to talk about music with you in the future.
