I dont know if anyone is a member of this scheme or scam!!Goodyear in an effort to win some more business from Gates introduced a warranty scheme for anyone using their branded cam belts.We have been members for just over a year and have fitted a fair few of their belts to customers cars.We recently had to make a claim for a Citroen BX16V of 1990 Vintage.I know this is an old car but it is the owners pride and joy and is in very good order.We fitted a Goodyear cambelt kit including tensioners just over 10 months ago.18k miles later and the belt failed.We assured the customer that it would be covered under warranty and went ahead with the repairs.The bill was high as the labour element was 15 hrs and all but 2 valves needed replacement.We gave the car back to the customer and put in a claim to Goodyear (who are, in fact we now discover, FAI).Two months later we get a response from FAI that they will not honour the warranty.As a good will gesture they offered to pay for parts plus £250 for the value of the car as as far as they are concerned that is the value of the vehicle.One of the statements on the leaflet that comes with the scheme states that the warranty will not apply if the claim is more than the value of the car!!!No need to say we will no longer be fitting Goodyear belts!!
