We had decided that we would do nothing. After all we operate our own internal standards of QC.We have our own quality check procedures and customer liaison and communication is our priority.( We even came runners up in the motor trader GOY award in 2005,but that is another story! so we must be doing something right with out these schemes? But recently we came across this trading standards scheme backed by Surrey county council called "buy with confidence" check out www.buywithconfidence.co.uk.It speaks for itself.
trading standards together with our county council(other councils have the scheme too)have got together to counter the so called rogue trader issue by promoting "good traders" we recently were awarded membership after TS spent a day with us looking at our buisness.they police the scheme and promote it.You can see for yourself on their website how it works. it costs you nothing to join, except to show/prove that you operate a "good garage".it is in its early days still, but we were impressed with the way that TS, who in the past admitted that they concentrated all their efforts in only seeking out Rogue elements, have realized that they need to offer consumers the alternative! and so advise consumers that their are good traders out there! there is only one problem with this scheme and that is: Because the tradesmen on the scheme are genuinely good they are all too busy with work to do your job in the near future!
