The lady 'phoned and said that it was making a noise and thought the wheel bearing was on the way out.
The spring had wound itself off the suspension leg, taken a chunk out of the brake hose and stopped when it got to the tyre, which it had nearly worn a groove right through.
The only reason the suspension hadn't dropped on that corner was because the spring was propped up on the tyre!
How she never had a BIG accident I'll never know.
I'm a bit keen on replacing rusty springs now.
