Well it turned out to be lucky 13 for us! Despite expecting some horrible weather......yes it rained but not nearly as much as we thought, and it was very windy, we both completed Sunday's GNR in style by setting new personal bests :-)
I knew Louise had it in her to run under 2 hours but it had always eluded her before, coming very close a couple of times (by seconds) but not this time, she managed a very respectable 01:57:41 which she is very pleased with. This clearly makes her a sub 2 hour runner now.
I finally managed to make full use of being lucky to start pretty close to the front with the fast guys & girls and despite setting of way too fast and then paying for it around miles 9,10 & 11 I felt surprisingly fresh towards the end and managed to recover the pace and put it in an official 1:35:01 some 3+ minutes faster than my previous best time. I would have dipped under 1:35 but right at the end in the heat of sprinting on wet grass a fellow female runner fell in front of me (maybe our feet touched...) and I stopped to haul her back on to her feet and pulled her the couple of metres over the line so that her time didn't suffer too much.
Despite the very cold wind and rain we were cheered all the way along by lots of spectators.....the folk on Tyneside never fail to amaze us with their generosity as do you guys here on UKAT. Once again we are really grateful for your continued support under difficult times and big, big thanks go out to Dave, Nigel and Mike. With your generous donations and that of all our other amazing supporters we have currently raised £575 but expect this to increase to £650 plus the gift aid on top once all the money is in.
Thank you once again on behalf of the Rainbow Trust Children's Charity.
Regards
Sean & Louise
P.S. Our charity page will continue accepting donations for a while yet so if you would like to help a great cause, please do!
