Hi all I was called out last Friday to look at a 2008 Mercedes Vito and found that the Eis was at fault. A quick call to my local dealer Ciceley of Blackburn, only to be informed that this part will no longer be supplied to independents as its now classified as a security related component. However they will supply you with a key that just so happens to be pre-programmed and able to unlock and start the car without any action from the use of diagnostic equipment.
Am I correct in thinking that this is against the block exemption ruling or right to repair. Is this just another nail in the coffin of independent repairers ? Does anybody have an idea of whether this is actually legal or not. Unless something is done about this the list of products available to us through the dealer network will continue to reduce and those of us that have invested in kit to do these ''Dealer only'' jobs will see our business shrinking even further.
